Getting to Know Your Tools
Sanding with your Dremel Multi-Max MM20™

Sanding Video

Sanding Wood Furniture

No matter the material, sanding can be a time-consuming job. Save time and energy by letting the Dremel Multi-Max MM20 do the work for you. The MM20 has a number of sanding accessories suitable for dry sanding wood and metal surfaces, including corners, edges and hard-to-reach areas.

For best results, work with the complete surface of the pad, not just the tip. On corners, it’s okay to use the tip or edge of the selected accessory, which should occasionally be rotated during use to distribute the wear on the accessory and backing pad surface. Always sand with a continuous motion and light pressure. DO NOT apply excessive pressure, just let the tool do the work. Using too much pressure can cause poor handling, vibration, unwanted sanding marks and premature wear on the sanding sheet.

Before tackling, make sure smaller work pieces are securely fastened to a workbench or other support. Large panels may be held in place by hand on a bench or sawhorses.

Spring Renovation, Part 1: Perk Up Your Patio

Restore Metal Patio Furniture

Restore Metal Patio Furniture

Spring is on its way and we’re all itching to get outside, but has winter taken a toll on your patio? Now’s a good time to prepare your patio for the return of warm weather by restoring metal patio furniture so you have a fresh look for the season without having to spend money on a new set. Your Dremel rotary tool can help remove flaking paint and rust on your furniture in a few steps so you can repaint and enjoy.

To get started, you’ll need: 425 Emery Impregnated Disc, 428 Carbon Steel Brush, 952 Aluminum Oxide Grinding Stone. Don’t forget eye protection.
  • Step 1: Corrosion can form on metal outdoor furniture in areas that you do not see. Be sure to check in the corners and beneath seat cushions.
  • Step 2: Remove rust from metal with the 428 carbon steel brush. Do not run in excess of 15,000 rpm.
  • Step 3: Grind deep corrosion and rust down to bare metal using a 952 aluminum oxide grinding stone.
  • Step 4: Sharp burs can be ground off using the 425 emery impregnated polishing wheel.
  • Step 5: The furniture is now ready to prime and paint. Opt for rust inhibitor paint in a bold hue and add some colorful outdoor cushions. Soon your furniture will be as good as new.
