Dremel Rotary Tools – From Hobbies to DIY
An owner of Dremel rotary tools for more than 30 years, Bob Goad uses Dremel tools for woodworking, hobbies and do-it-yourself projects. The tools are so handy he also uses them to teach young wood carvers and to demonstrate woodworking at his local hardware center.
Goad is an accomplished woodworker and has used Dremel products on wooden inlays (the craft of forming a decorative panel composed of shaped sections of wood veneer and applying it to a structural piece of furniture, such as a tabletop), relief (a picture-like carving made out of wood) and for bird carving.
“Dremel tools are well-balanced and easy to use for intricate woodworking,” said Goad. “The Dremel Flex-Shaft offers additional dexterity when working on small pieces.”
In addition to his craftsman work, Goad finds Dremel tools useful for everyday DIY tasks – especially when they can get him out of a tight spot.
“I locked my keys inside a utility trailer and was about to tackle the job of getting back in with a hacksaw,” explained Goad. “But, then I thought of my Dremel and cut-off wheel…a job that could have taken me a while to complete took less than 30 seconds with my trusty Dremel!”
Goad also uses Dremel tools for tasks around the house such as polishing silver, adjusting door locks and hinges, sharpening his lawnmower blade and polishing parts of his motorcycle. “I never thought one little tool could help me so much,” said Goad. “But when I’m faced with any at-home task, hobby, craft or DIY, the first tool I think to use is my Dremel rotary tool.”

It’s the season for grilling and gardening! Dremel tools, such as the Dremel Stylus, are the perfect choice to help you freshen up your patio and tackle other outdoor do-it-yourself projects. The Stylus helps you complete maintenance projects and home repair in a flash by bringing precision rotary tool technology to your fingertips. Below are a few quick and simple outdoor home repairs that will have your backyard ready for company in no time.
Freshen Up Metal Patio Furniture: Season after season, patio furniture is exposed to outdoor elements. Start the summer with a breath of fresh air by removing any loose or flaking paint with the Dremel Stylus and the #530 stainless steel wire brush accessory.
Clean the Grill: A rotary tool is the perfect tool to avoid hand scrubbing and quickly rids the grates of any cooking deposits. Tackle the task with the Dremel Stylus and the #511 abrasive buff accessory.
Make Terra-Cotta Luminaries: Looking to add a warm glow to your patio party? Create one-of-a-kind luminaries to light up the conversation. Draw or trace a design onto a terra-cotta pot. Then, using a hand-held rotary tool, carve out your design. Insert a votive candle to illuminate your table, entryway, patio or garden. Try a citronella candle to help keep pests away.

I’m looking for the circle cutter for my 400 Series XPR, but have been unsuccessful. Do you know where I can purchase this attachment?
~ Tad S., via e-mail
Thanks for the great question, Tad. Dremel offers the 678-01 Circle Cutter Attachment and 561 MultiPurpose Cutting Bit (sold separately). There are a lot of different Dremel accessories and attachments, and due to the large volume of offerings, not every hardware or home improvement store carries every accessory. If you haven’t been able to find the circle cutter and cutting bit in your local store, you can visit the product pages at www.dremel.com. The available online retailers are listed on the right hand side of the page. For the Dremel Circle Cutter Attachment, online retailers include www.amazon.com, www.toolsforless.com or www.CPOrotarytools.com. The links above take you directly to the product page for purchase.
In any event, you can also purchase the products directly from the Dremel Experts by calling 800.437.3635 Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Central Standard Time. Shipping and tax will be added where applicable. VISA, Mastercard and Discover are accepted.
